Corey Maison and her father have both come out as transgender and will complete the transition together.
15 Year-old Corey Maison told her mother that she was like her, that she was a girl. At first she was concerned about how her family would respond to her. “I wanted to make my parents proud of who I am, but I thought that they would not like me,” Corey told 60 Minutes, an Australian broadcast magazine.
@Regrann from @natgeo – Sometimes our children lead the way. Corey, 14, socially transitioned from boy to girl in the past few years. She gave her Mom, Eric(a) the courage to begin her own transition from female to male. They are moving in opposite directions but toward their true selves. After her first shot of testosterone Erica said she finally felt “complete”. Remarkably, Corey’s mother was experiencing the same type of struggle. Inspired by watching a documentary on Jazz Jennings, Eric, announced that he was transitioning too.
“The first feeling was relief, the second was terror. Fear for what my future would hold, fear for how my family and children would, fear for what the rest of my life was going to look like.”
Eric has said that his only regret was not learning about what it meant to be transgender earlier.
