One Love, All Equal: What inspired you to become an actor?

Sean Maguire: I made my first film at 5 years old and never wanted to do anything else.

OLAE: Can you tell us a little more about your character Robin Hood on ABC´s Once Upon a Time?

SM: Well this Robin Hood is a father and a widow and I think he’s more [of] a real man.

OLAE: What does being an LGBT ally mean to you?

SM: Being on the right side of fairness and equality is how I was raised.

Sean Maguire1OLAE: Do you have a specific moment when you realized that you wanted to be an Ally; that this is something you want to stand up for?

SM: Since I was a very young child I have worked with the gay community; insuring their right to love and marry who they want is paramount.

OLAE: Why do you think it is important for celebs/well-known people to use their platforms to speak to equality, and acceptance, and tolerance?

SM: Because openness [is promoted] when people we look up to show their support.

OLAE: Do you think that a lot of people are reluctant to voice their support for the LGBT community because people might perceive them as gay?

SM: Well if they do [then] their insecurity is the first thing they should work on.

OLAE: What advice would you give to anyone thinking of becoming an ally?

SM: Be on the right side of history.

OLAE: Have you ever voiced your objection to someone´s use of homophobic or transphobic language?

SM: A lot of my closest friends are gay so I can’t say I’ve ever had to.

OLAE: Is there any additional message or words that you would like to share with our readers?

SM: Keep fighting the good fight. We’re getting there.

OLAE: Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to speak with us Sean.

SM: My pleasure.
