“Equality,” “love,” and “support” were just a few of the words that echoed throughout the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine at ’s “Trailblazer Honors” in New York City, Thursday night. The televised event honored individuals who fought for LGBT rights.

“I know how lucky I am to be born to parents who understood love, who understood Harvey is just Harvey,” said Trailblazer honoree Harvey Fierstein during his acceptance speech. “They allowed me to have a baby doll carriage when I was four [years old]. My mother said, ‘He’s going to be a good father,’” he joked.

Tennis player and equal-rights advocate Billie Jean King also received an award – presented by Emma Stone who will play her in the upcoming biopic “Battle of the Sexes.” Reflecting on the moment when she was outed as a gay athlete and subsequently losing all of her endorsements, King said, “Although it might be painful for me in the moment, having the opportunity to use that pain to help others is much more rewarding and significantly more important.”

Chloë Grace Moretz presented Syrian refugee and Pride Grand Marshal Subhi Nahas with his honor. Nahas told Variety, “It means a lot coming from Syria and representing persecuted LGBT people and being their voice. I want them to know that they are not alone and there are a lot of people that care.”

Other presenters included Lance Bass, Janet Mock, Joel Grey, Wilson Cruz, Macklemore, and Candis Cayne.

The event, which also served as a dedication to the 49 people killed at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, tapped special guest RuPaul to hold a moment of silence before Mary Lambert performed an acoustic version of “Same Love.” Rachel Platten opened and closed the show with her anthems “Stand By You” and “Fight Song.”

After the show, the cathedral, lit by candles engraved with the names of each person killed in Orlando, housed a cocktail reception. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi snapped selfies with Bob the Drag Queen and Carson Kressley while guests enjoyed wine and small bites of tuna tartare, grilled cheese, and Italian rainbow cake.

The “Trailblazer Honors” will air June 25 at 8 p.m. ET on Logo and VH1.
