A supposed meeting between Vladmir Putin and Elton John has apparently been scrapped.
The Russian President and musician were expected to discuss issues concerning LGBT rights. However, despite being due to meet with the President in April the singer was unable to meet with Putin. It is believed that the meeting has been shelved due to “scheduling issues.”
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said:
“We were in correspondence with him [Elton John] a couple of weeks ago, because there had been an agreement that, if their schedules allow, this meeting would take place.
“President Putin expressed readiness for this meeting. But this time, the meeting won’t take place, unfortunately. Their schedules do not match up. But this does not mean that such a meeting won’t take place next time.”
John has previously challenged Putin to a debate on his anti-gay propaganda laws.
